The TKDA Scholarship, awarded to a second-year pre-architecture student based on the overall quality and strength of their design folio, reflects a collaboration between College of DuPage and local businesses. The scholarship connects students with architecture firm TKDA, where the student has the opportunity to take part in a summer internship that provides hands-on exposure to architecture, laying the foundation for their future careers. Ivan (pictured), who won the scholarship and had a summer internship with TKDA last summer said, "I was fortunate and thankful for the unique opportunity to work with an incredible team of architects at TKDA’s Chicago office. I was able to experience and learn the true responsibility and position of the architect in various projects. I enjoyed talking and listening to fellow architects about their experience in the profession. I’m glad TKDA is continuing to offer this great opportunity to COD students, and I hope future candidates are able to learn and grow as architects outside the classroom as I have."

Happy National Drone Day! Today we share our appreciation for our UAV drone pilots, including Civil Engineering Technician, Derek Pientka. Derek helps TKDA soar to new heights with the power of drones - from capturing stunning aerial views for site analysis, to precise mapping for project planning, drones are revolutionizing how we design and build. Although drones are used primarily before and during a project, Derek says his favorite flights with drones involve capturing images to use for marketing purposes, when he can free fly and grab photos that show off the final results. Recalling memorable locations Derek has been to capture data with a drone, Derek says "My favorite place was probably California. Though I did not directly fly the drone during our six days out there, it was definitely the one I remember most vividly as I had never been to California before. The project was to scan 14 miles of double main rail and was a very good experience to have." Derek, who appreciates the number of applications he can use drones for, says he would like to have a drone or two of his own soon. He hopes to use his skills and knowledge to get out into nature more and use his camera and a drone to capture some crazy pictures. Thank you for your dedication, skill, and contributions to the success of our projects, Derek!
